STUDENT DRESS CODE

         There are regulations requiring standardization of dress.  Dress is acceptable if it is not disruptive to the school program.  You must be fully clothed (including shoes), with clothing that is reasonably clean and discreet.

The school administration reserves the right to approve or disapprove any items not addressed in this policy.  All decisions will be based on the goal of providing a safe and orderly environment for the education of all students.

HEAD COVER - Students will not be permitted to wear hats, caps, hoods, or other types of head cover in the building during school hours.  Head coverings that are a part of a student’s religious dress will be permitted. Students may wear head covering after exiting the buildings.  Head cover pertaining to safety may be worn while in the educational shops with permission from the instructor and the principal.

CLOTHING - Shirts/Tops must:

  • cover the back and midriff area at all times
  • fit modestly so that cleavage area is covered
  • cover undergarments
  • not be see-through or have areas cut out
  • cover spaghetti straps, halters, or muscle shirts with a button-up shirt or sweater
  • no article of clothing or accessory that exhibits cursing, vulgar language, suggestive of sexually explicit language, racial/ethnic religious slurs, vulgar or suggestive pictures or graphics, or promotes/advertises tobacco, alcohol, drugs or violence.
  • shorts, skirts, skorts and dresses must
    • have a hemline length no shorter than mid-thigh when standing or sitting
    • slits must conform to the above length
  • pants must:
    • cover undergarments at all times
    • not be baggy or excessively oversized
    • not have cut, ripped or open areas above mid-thigh

 

                  JEWELRY AND ACCESSORIES

         Any jewelry or accessory that can be used or is perceived as a weapon is prohibited i.e., large chains.

         Student apparel with wording or graphics advertising or promoting the use of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs are not acceptable.  Clothing with suggestive, profane or otherwise offensive words or graphics are not acceptable.

Students violating the dress policy must remove, change or reverse the offensive item immediately on request.  Failure to comply or repeated offenses will result in disciplinary action by the administration.

 

PROHIBITED ARTICLES

Any article that is disruptive or potentially disruptive to the school program is prohibited on school grounds.  This would include weapons, tools, explosives, illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, alcoholic beverages, water guns, noisemakers, radios, electronic games, laser lights, etc.  School authorities have the right to search students in accordance with the Summers County Policy.
